Dr. Walsh-Messinger is an Associate Professor of Psychology and Director of the Psychopathology, Personality, and Affective Science(PPAS) laboratory at the University of Dayton. She is also a member of the Global Consortium for Chemosensory Research (GCCR). Her program of research primarily investigates the phenomenology, neurobiology, etiology, and assessment of social and emotional impairments in schizophrenia and related disorders, with a focus on sex differences in the neural processing of human olfaction, emotion, and social behavior. Additionally, she is currently studying the impact of post-COVID syndrome on long-term physical and mental health.
Dr. Walsh-Messinger earned a bachelor's degree in Human Development in 2004 and a master's degree in Counseling Psychology in 2006 from Boston College. She was awarded her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Long Island University Brooklyn in 2013, following completion of her predoctoral clinical internship at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. She then completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in Mental Illness Research and Treatment at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and the James J Peters VA Medical Center before joining the University of Dayton faculty in 2015. Dr. Walsh-Messinger is a licensed psychologist in the states of Ohio and New York.
